The Tier 2 style of hybrid schooling has been a learning experience for teachers, staff, and students. Getting used to online learning is very challenging, but since the first marking period of the school year is complete, most are accustomed to it.

There are two options for this school year. The hybrid option is when students attend school for two half days, either Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday depending on their last name, and have zoom calls with their class the other two days. Asynchronous work is to be completed from home as well. The other option is the virtual academy, CVVA, where students have zoom calls four days a week.

Since a majority of the work is online this year, the common struggles among most students are locating their work and dodging the technology issues. Teachers have also been required to become very creative by manipulating their lesson plans to be technologically friendly.

Junior Casey Segin said, “It’s hard to connect with your classmates and your teachers as well as fully getting the concept of the subject. It’s hard to understand some topics in school because you are only there for so much time.”

English teacher Ms. Cara Urich said, “For teachers it’s been a learning curve. I personally know a lot of teachers who have put more time in this year than they have any year outside of school. I spend ten to twelve hours on Sunday prepping for the week. It’s like year one for a teacher because we’re creating everything from scratch.”

Students were given a deadline of October 27 this marking period to turn in any late work. This was done to ease students’ stress of finishing all of their assignments during a new time for everyone. This opportunity is not to be expected for the rest of the school year. All in all, the school is making the best out of the situation and being very patient by addressing students’ needs.
