CV Golf Team Hosts Community Clinic

The Cumberland Valley Golf Team put on a two-day clinic for the youth in the community at Rich Valley Golf Course April 17-18. The inaugural clinic taught the students essential golf skills and rules. Most importantly the goal was to help them enjoy the game of golf.
The clinic included three different thirty-minute stations that include chipping, putting, and the driving range. Members from the Cumberland Valley Golf Team are assigned to a station where they will coach the students. At the end of the two days there is an hour of different competitions for the students to reinforce the skills that they learned throughout the stations.
Assistant Coach Bob Nikey is very excited about the clinic and how it reached the community. “I think the clinic brought great awareness to the younger kids about golf in the community. There are many activities in the community for younger kids such as soccer camps, basketball, baseball, football camps etc.” Nikey said.
“There are a few summer camps at a couple of the local golf courses but this was the first clinic targeting the CV middle school community. When middle schoolers see other kids their age playing the game it will make golf even more popular with the younger kids.”
“I’m very excited about the future of CV golf,” Nikey said. “CV has always had very good golf teams, but now that there is a Girls’ team and golf is being introduced to kids at a younger age, the teams should really become quite good. There will be a lot of competition to make the CV teams in the future! Could State Championships be in the future at CV? I think so! Think Big!”
This is a great way to get younger students interested in golf and hopefully encourage them to try out for the team in future years.
